The sink drains slowly and there’s a smell from the plughole
Oil from the frying pan, the pan you’ve just washed, leftover sauce on the plates. Grease cools in the pipe, hardens and narrows the drain layer by layer. Rotting deposits cause the smell from the U-bend.
- Water drains from the sink more and more slowly
- A rotten smell from the plughole
- The U-bend blocks again after a few weeks
- Tiny flies around the sink
A chemical unblocker burns a channel through the blockage, but the grease on the pipe walls stays and the blockage is back within weeks. Along the way, it attacks seals, the U-bend and the bacteria in your septic tank or treatment plant.
It breaks grease down, rather than just pushing it further along
Pour in a scoop
20 g straight into the kitchen sink drain.
Add warm water
0.5–1 l at 30–40°C. The bacteria wake up and lactose gives them energy.
Leave it overnight
Enzymes break down fats, proteins and starch. Don’t use the sink for 8+ hours.
In the evening, after the last washing-up
Prevention
- Dose
- 1 scoop (20 g)
- How often
- once a week
- Pack lasts
- about 6 months
First course
- Dose
- 1 scoop (20 g)
- How often
- 3–5 evenings in a row
- Then
- once a week
Pour in the dose with 0.5–1 l of warm water (30–40°C) and don’t use the sink for at least 8 hours. Start with the first course if water is already draining slowly. For flies around the sink: 5–7 evenings in a row, then once a week.
Don’t use boiling water: above 60°C the bacteria die. After a chemical unblocker or bleach, wait at least 48 hours and rinse the pipe with plenty of warm water. The product is dusty: pour slowly, close to the drain, and wash your hands after use.
What this product won’t do
It won’t remove stuck objects
A bone, a sponge, a piece of plastic or a cocktail stick has to come out by hand or be removed by a plumber.
It won’t work in 15 minutes
The bacteria need at least 8 hours, ideally overnight.
It won’t replace cleaning the U-bend
The strainer and U-bend still need cleaning from time to time.
What our customers ask
When will I see a difference?
With an ordinary grease blockage, the first improvement shows after 1–3 evenings of regular use. With deposits that are months old, the bacteria need more time, even 5–7 days. If water doesn’t drain at all, call a plumber first, then use BioMe for prevention.
Is it safe for septic tanks and treatment plants?
Yes. It doesn’t kill the bacteria in your septic tank or treatment plant; it supports them.
Does it help with flies in the kitchen?
Indirectly, yes. It isn’t an insecticide, but it breaks down the deposits in the pipe that drain fly larvae feed on, so the cycle is broken. Use it 5–7 evenings in a row, then once a week.
Can I use it in the bathroom?
This product is made for kitchen deposits: fats, proteins and food scraps. For bathroom drains (hair, dead skin, soap, toothpaste), BioMe Bathroom Drain Unblocker is a better fit, with a different microbial blend.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
No. The bacteria need 8 hours of undisturbed contact with the deposits, and in the dishwasher they would be washed straight out. If your dishwasher drains through the same hose as the sink, using it in the sink also helps that part of the pipework.
Is it safe for pipes and seals?
Yes. It contains no corrosive substances. It’s safe for PVC, PP, PE, copper, steel and cast iron pipes, rubber and silicone seals, U-bends and taps.
